Routine Cleaning
Most debris can be removed with a hose and a soft-bristle brush. For general cleaning, use warm soapy water and a soft brush or cloth. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid using a pressure washer — high pressure can damage the deck surface and void the warranty.

Seasonal Care in Connecticut
Spring
Remove winter debris — leaves, twigs and accumulated dirt. Inspect the deck surface for any winter damage. Clean the deck with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Check railings, stairs and fasteners. Clear drainage paths beneath the deck.
Summer
Regular sweeping or rinsing to remove pollen, dirt and food spills. Clean up after gatherings. Check that gaps remain consistent — composite expands slightly in summer heat. If using a grill or fire feature, protect the deck surface from grease and embers.
Fall
Remove leaves promptly — wet leaves trap moisture and can cause staining or mold. Clean the deck before winter. Clear gutters and downspouts near the deck. Check under-deck drainage if installed. Inspect flashing and ledger area before winter moisture.
Winter
Use a plastic shovel — never a metal one — to remove snow. Apply calcium chloride or rock salt for ice — rinse thoroughly in spring. Avoid sharp impacts that could damage the surface in cold temperatures. Do not use ice melt products containing colorants or dyes.
Stain Removal
Mold and mildew
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. For stubborn growth, use a composite deck cleaner approved by Trex. Ensure adequate ventilation beneath the deck to prevent recurrence.
Grease and oil
Remove immediately. Apply a mild household degreaser or dish soap directly to the stain, scrub gently and rinse thoroughly. Do not use solvent-based degreasers.
Tannin from leaves
Remove leaves promptly. Clean with a composite deck cleaner. Tannin stains typically weather and fade with sun exposure over time.
Rust from metal furniture
Use a composite deck cleaner with oxalic acid. Remove metal furniture with rusted feet — replace with plastic or rubber caps. Rinse thoroughly after treatment.
Ice melt residue
Rinse the deck thoroughly in spring after winter ice melt use. A white residue may appear — this is typically salt that can be rinsed away. Use calcium chloride rather than colored ice melt products.
